Worship Space Improvements Ready to Begin
July 25, 2021 Update
Two months ago, we reported on the next phase of our parish facilities improvement project – our worship space – and the schedule for completing the work this summer and fall. Now that contractor bids have been opened, reviewed, and negotiated, we are ready to proceed with the project. Here are the latest details:
- Vos Construction of Green Isle has been awarded the contract for general construction.
- Quade Electric of Hutchinson will be the subcontractor for the electrical work.
- Foster Mechanical of Hutchinson will be the subcontractor for the HVAC work.
Thanks to your generosity through the initial phase of the capital campaign, the funds have been raised to complete the next phase of improvements. The Parish Council and Finance Council met last Tuesday evening and voted to proceed with the following additions to the project; recognizing that for cost savings and efficiency “we need to do it once and do it well.”
- Change Sanctuary Platform from steel and wood framing to a concrete slab. Deduct $30,000 from cost.
- Stations of the Cross: $27,000
- Current Stations of the Cross are smaller in size, difficult to see, and at the rear wall of the church. Install new stations with millwork, tile and lighting at new locations on north and west walls.
- Acoustical Wall Panels: $13,000
- To enhance acoustics per the recommendation of the acoustical engineer, install fabric covered acoustical wall panels at the east and south walls.
- Carpet Tile in Worship Space: $21,000
- The current carpet is worn and in need of replacement. Remove existing carpet and install new carpet in worship space.
- New Motorized Clerestory Window Blinds: $28,000
- Current blinds are non-functional. Remove existing vertical blinds and install new motorized vertical blinds in worship space clerestory windows.
- Fire Protection Sprinkler Riser and Water Service: $129,000
- Install fire protection sprinkler riser, water service, and sprinkler heads to make fire suppression system in worship space fully functional. The system will be sized to serve future additions and remodeling.
The additional items noted above increased this phase of the project cost by $188,400, with the fire suppression system the most significant expense. However, we recognize that to complete any future facility expansion, the City of Hutchinson will require all of our facilities to be sprinkled. Therefore, for safety and cost efficiency, we believe it is prudent to complete the work now and avoid tearing out the church ceiling during a potential future expansion in another area of our facilities.
Thank you for your trust and confidence as we move forward with this phase of improvements. Please contact us if you have any questions. We’ll update you again in September as the work proceeds.

Our mission trip is coming quickly with our departure on July 10th! I can’t thank everyone enough for their financial support and prayers as these plans have come together. Our group of eighteen is very excited as we count down the days! I humbly ask that you please continue to keep our participants and their families in your thoughts and prayers as we prepare for this week-long journey.
While journeying to and from Benton Harbor, our group plans on stopping at the three Marian shrines in Wisconsin: The Shrine of our Lady of Guadalupe, Basilica and National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians at Holy Hill, and the National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help.

We are eager to visit these places of pilgrimage and prayer. Please, know that we will holding you all in our hearts and prayers throughout the week and at these holy sites. Stay tuned for how you can connect and pray with us during our trip!
